Will Canelo's Mexican boxing fans punish Canelo more for not fighting Golovkin?

Some news sites reported the Canelo-Smith PPV didn't drew well. Some called it a shrinking PPV number for Canelo, from 900k of the Cotto fight, to 400k plus of the Khan fight and now the 200k plus ppv buys for the Smith fight.

It's pointed out that the lower than expected PPV buys of the Smith fight is due to the fact that Canelo is not yet fighting Golovkin next. Some Canelo fans were turned off.

Will Mexican boxing fans punish Canelo more for not fighting Golovkin? What's your prediction on Canelo's next PPV performance (most probably May 2017) if he's not fighting Golovkin on that date?

I don't think it has anything to do with that. It's the lack of interest in the opponents.

Both were seen as automatic Canelo victories before either fight even commenced. Fans want to see real competition.

Punish, by showing up 50,000 strong to see the fight? Or, by 300k buying a ppv of him fighting someone they never heard of?

Maybe they'll punish him by buying 97k of his ppv. Oh, wait, that's the other guy...

I'm not wild about this fight taking forever to make but let's get real, no one is punishing him. Sadly, boxers get away with fighting bad opposition all the time. Look at the numbers Golovkin and Brook did in the UK. No one seemed to give a fk that it was a mismatch.

You mean 200k? Or you only push Glaser numbers when it fits your agenda?

200K would seem to indicate that the fans AREN'T buying his BS saga until he fights GGG. Make the fight happen. That flat fee won't work against a guy who just had 500K.

It can't be denied that Canelo's PPV numbers is shrinking in the Smith fight. For example, Canelo did a 300k plus PPV buys fighting Angulo way back in 2014.

If Canelo can't get Golovkin in May 2017, I predict his PPV number will again be punished.

200K x $65 = 13mil "no name Smith" (3rd attempt defense. how many did Angulo have?)
500k x $22 = 11mil "Brook sold the fight" had to go overseas... lol

Canelo is still ducking GGG and that's the bottom line.

Those supporting Canelo are rooting for a man scared to fight another man his own size. Pathetic.

Promoters didn't want him to fight Lara but he did. If Canelo wants to fight GGG, he fights GGG. He's the boss.
