  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin-Brook, Gonzalez-Cuadras: Post-Fight Report Card

The pairing, indirect this time, of middleweight Gennady Golovkin and now Jr. bantamweight Roman Gonzalez delivered again on Saturday. As has been the case for most of this pairing, Golovkin delivers more spectacle in lieu of worthy adversaries.

There were no x-rays in the corner telling them about a fractured eye socket.
Sure, but you could see Brook paw at it from time to time. Didn't mean anything was broken, but he definitely took some damage there. Looked a little like Donaire during the Rigondeaux fight.

The end result was a proof for cynics who saw this as every bit the mismatch Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan was. The smaller men made good shows in both fights.
While I agree that this wasn't the same level of mismatch as Canelo-Khan, it was still a mismatch nonetheless. Most people were not shocked at the idea that WWs could win a couple of rounds against larger men, so it didn't really prove anything to the cynics who more or less saw the fights going as they went.

Legs fading, punches losing steam? The only thing stopping Brook from a great finish was the eye injury. He was certainly stopping GGG in his tracks throughout the matchup til shortly before the stoppage, and it's ridiculous to not give the man due credit. It seems there will always be a certain percentage who would dismiss any effort made by Brook as 'well, he's the smaller fighter, so you know....'. Fact is, he made GGG look clueless for a couple rounds there... something no other fighter OF ANY SIZE has done before. And BTW, this was NOTHING like the Wade fight. Brook came to win. Wade just showed up and not much more.

As for Gonzalez, the one who should be getting the most praise is the other fighter. Cuadras proved much more that night. Gonzalez proved he's on the downward slope. Sure he throws a load of punches, but he certainly didn't land a great percentage nor was he as effective as Cuadras. I doubt seriously Gonzalez gets a tough challenge next fight.

None of the names mentioned from 154 would have much more success than what Brooke did different styles but the end would be about the same, mayb a few rounds more I don't c any1 out there beating GGG ...Fraudverez will continue 2 elude him until @ least 2018
