Comments Thread For: Leonard-Hearns: It's Beginning To Look A lot Like September 16

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - I'm excited. It's almost my favorite day of the year. Well, OK, maybe it's fourth behind my anniversary, my son's birthday and Christmas -- but still, it's pretty big: Sept. 16. The day on which, over the course of seven years back in the 1980s, my life changed forever...

Too all who compared GGG vs. Brook to Leonard vs. Hagler, please submit your apologies on this thread. GGG and Hagler, I get it! Comparing Brook to Sugar Ray Leonard was very disrespectful on so many levels! Leonard's resume was 100 times better than Brook's. His strategy was better, and his execution of the game plan was flawless! Brook...uh, not so much!

Hagler vs Golovkin would be a must see fight. Hagler by mid rounds Ko

SRL vs Brook would be a 3/4 round master boxing lesson dished out by SRL at 147. Strangely I'd see it as a bit more competitive at 160 - not much though.

I think Hagler would've out-boxed GGG, switching stance, etc. I think Leonard would do the same to Brook @ 160, but he would've probably got the KO @ 147! I think Floyd is a better boxer than SRL, but because he never faced the kind of competition (Duran, Hearns, Hagler) that SRL did, he can never be in his company. A win over GGG @ 160, would put him in that company!

If Floyd would have fought Golovkin when Floyd was early thirties then I think he'd have 'ran' to a decision. But I have to think if Maidana could put hands on him and shake him once, then Golovkin would have caught up with him more often and laid heavier hands on him more often. Having said that it kind of depends what weight they'd have fought at. And it is hypothetical as no way can I see Floyd coming back now to fight a stiff challenge even at WW much less at 154. I think Golovkin would be totally drained at 154 despite what has been said by his camp.
IMO SRL was the better fighter than Floyd at 147 and 154. Floyd has better defense but SRL was a more effective aggressor. lMO Ray's resume craps all over Floyd's resume - but that was just a sign of the times back then - there were many more great fighters in that era.

You mean if Floyd had fought Golovkin @ 154, in his early thirties, he would win by decision. True. But Floyd would've never beaten GGG @ 160, no matter what age! I also agree that 154 would totally drain GGG, so it's not a legacy fight. Now if Floyd beat Canelo again @ 155 for his MW belt, that would be a legacy fight! By the way, SRL "ran" to a decision vs. Hagler! A win is a win!
