Comments Thread For: Hands of Stone - Ramirez Credits Roberto Duran as Mentor

From a building in Manhattan's midtown, Roberto Duran and Edgar Ramirez can see Madison Square Garden. "The Garden, many good memories," says the Panamanian about the New York arena where he won two world titles: the first of his successful career in 1972 and his third in 1983.

It looks well made i look forward to watching it this weekend.

I've heard good reviews so hopefully it does well.

Most of the published reviews have been mixed. The character development and script has been criticized. However, many have said the actual boxing scenes are well done and directed. My local theater isn't playing it and not sure if i will have chance to see it this weekend. One odd thing about the film is the running length of 105 minutes. Duran had a long boxing career with over 100 bouts and i would've expected at minimum a two-hour film. Minus the film credits it probably is only 98 minutes long.

Remember? Duran said he didn't say "No Mas", so I'm sure the movie will conveniently talk about his stomach cramps.

Just saw it. Basically they stuck with the story that he partied hard after the first fight and was forced to accept the 3nd fight against his and his trainers will on short notice and had to drop alot of weight quickly. Which led to him not feeling well during the fight.

I feel sorry for Duran, this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Deniro was great, but the script and storyline was for the birds..

                I loved it!

But I'm far from a movie buff, and obviously love anything related to boxing.

I don't understand some of the brutal reviews. This isn't Raging Bull or the Original Rocky, but there are still some good acting performances and humor that save the film. The entire theater was laughing at the Ramirez-Ana De Armas sex scene and the conclusion of the Buchanan bout.

One legit gripe is the reenactment of round 15 between Duran-Leonard. The final round was a bit different as Duran pretty much told Dr. Pacheco that he took the round off as he felt he already had won it. Film could have been a tad longer and included some more recent bouts, but i have no regrets going to a more distant theater to see it.

Agreed! Also skipper from no mas to moore, like a quick bounce back to fame.....could deceive someone that doesn't know better.
