Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz Brushes Off Golden Boy Split, Vows To Batter Ustinov

As reported earlier on BoxingScene.com, WBA interim-heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz and Golden Boy Promotions have officially parted ways. However, Ortiz makes it clear that this situation does not affect his continued work in the gym with his trainer Herman Caicedo, as they await a finalized date for the mandatory fight with Alexander Ustinov. Ortiz has been out of the ring since his HBO televised knockout of Tony Thompson back in March.

As shown in his post-fight interviews, Luis is a man of few words. He's a simple guy. Perhaps too simple. He may be right that his business is in the ring, but he may later regret this split from GBP. Time will tell.

Somebody got to be whispering in his ear....i mean, 7 figure buy out? Doubt his other promoter had that much on hand to put on Ortiz who won't make them anywhere near that much for them

Golden Boy did a great job with Ortiz, he went from being a relative unknown to being featured on HBO and becoming interim heavyweight champion of the world.

What more can you ask for? Dade Promotions was just along for the ride. They're another Caribe.
