Comments Thread For: Mayweather: I Believe in Shakur Stevenson, I See The Next Floyd!

RIO DE JANEIRO -- His focus seemingly unflappable, Shakur Stevenson was briefly distracted when he heard a familiar voice as he walked out for his Olympic bout. "Augie! Augie!" Floyd Mayweather Jr. was in the house and shouting at U.S. boxing assistant coach Augie Sanchez.

Floyd bringing positive attention to Olympic fighters is a good thing. Just hope he promotes and develops them the right way.

If I had to sum up Floyd's style as a promoter, Floyd is more likely than most to test his protégés. He pretty much put all his guys in deep early, but they were all used when he got them. These guys are new born, long term investments, it will take 3 or 4 years to get them ranked. There are no Loma types in the crowd, I don't know if Floyd has that kind of patience.

              "The next mayweather"
I.e. the code name for the next Andre Berto.

I mean, where are all the "next mayweathers" right now and Floyd is an atrocious talent scout.
If the next mayweather is coming, it sure as hell isnt from him.

The kid is sharp. It might not say so much that he completely outclassed a Mongolian fighter today- but he did nonetheless.

There haven't been that many fights in Rio that have had one fighter in complete control the way Stevenson was today. Very sharp, very accurate, doesn't waste anything. The Mongolian wanted to try to make it a mess (like most of these 3 rounders have been) but was completely shut down.

Stevenson has a good shot to get the gold for the US. The Russian he fights for it got beat up and cut (maybe softened up?) pretty good by the Irish guy who threw a fit after he lost the SD.
