Comments Thread For: Team USA: Can Boxing Become a Story?

By Cliff Rold - On Wednesday afternoon, Team USA got something it needed badly. After being shut out of the medal stand on the men's side for the first time in Olympic competition in 2012, light flyweight Nico Hernandez guaranteed the men's team would not leave empty handed this time around. A different test begins...

This Nico kid's made a fan outta me.

Zero quit in him and he's very intelligent with how he goes about his work.

I'll admit, I'm a casual amateur boxing fan in every sense of the term. I only care about amateur boxing once every four years. And then my interest is only minimal. But this team has gotten my attention. Mainly because they're winning. I'm American, and root for my country. But I'm also looking at it because of where these kids are fighting. These kida are doing well in weight ranges where some day, if they continue to progress, they could set up some nice events with some of the elite guys tearing it up in their weight ranges in the pros. Kinda sux that I'm boarding a cruise in a couple hours and won't be able to follow the games as much as I'll like the next couple days. Either way, GO USA!!!

It would be nice if I could ACTUALLY WATCH THEM FIGHT.

Kind of hard to capture our imagination when I can only see them fight by using a crappy online stream.

Give us a bit of a background and profile of the other fighters as well. I already know about the two that had advance. Tell something about the other kids.
