Cuban LHW Julio Cesar La Cruz stunk it up today. Had his track shoes on. Normally i don't critize amateurs, but given that i paid good money for the ticket, i feel i have a small right to whinge.
This article says he put on a 'beautiful display of movement and boxing skill in dominating an overmatched Mehmet Unal of Turkey'
Overmatched opponent is the only thing i agree with in that statement.

I felt that welterweight Hovhannes Bachkov from Venezuela was on the bad side of a split decision, given that he knocked his Armenian opponent down with a cracking left hook in the first round. HE showed good movemet and skill, given his country of origin.
A knockdown is still a 10-9 round in the Am's!!

Your right. If it was [especially Eastern] European, they would most likely stand and fight, and i'm happy with that sort of schooling. I started supporting Cuba from the outset but switched sides mid fight. In the second round the Turkish coached told their boxer not to chase him (getiing counter punched like a mofo) so he just stood there waiting for the cuban to initiate the fight. I almost fell asleep. I was actually going to leave but noticed the next fight was Uzbekistan v Azerbaijan. Although a little messy, they threw punches with bad intentions for 3 rounds and neither hit the deck. That's my favourite sort of science.

The Cuban's are favorites to win every division except for Super Heavyweight.

As I said before, If they don't win at least 5 gold medals it would be a pretty big failure on their part.
