Comments Thread For: Santa Cruz: Frampton Had Good Footwork and Good Movement

That kind of volume is normal for Santa Cruz. But there were a few rounds against Carl Frampton this past Saturday night that Santa Cruz was held to noticeably less activity — 53 shots thrown in Round 1, 53 in Round 3, and 63 in Round 5, according to CompuBox. And he was held to just a 25 percent connect rate, going 255 of 1002, landing only one of every four shots he threw. That included 64 of 451 jabs (14 percent) and 191 of 551 power shots (35 percent).

I have no idea what Cruz's dad was talking about telling Santa Cruz to box and use movement. Since when has Cruz been a boxer/counter puncher, never! He is a strait ahead volume pressure fighter.

It just goes to show that Cruz-Haymon era in Cruz's career has only stunted and probably regressed his evolution as a fighter. Since he has been with Haymon he has fought only bums and he has only fought 5 times before the Frampton fight and 4 of those were against bums and the one good fight was against a broken Mares.

The Santa Cruz that was with Golden Boy was fighting better quality competition and improving with each fight. He was being brought along well and had a bright future. The GBP Santa Cruz would of beat Frampton.

His lack of quality fights and lack of rds showed in the Frampton fight. He was tired and he was hesitant and his timing was off all of which happen to Haymon fighters because they fight so rarely and when they do they fight bums.

Rigondeaux ended everyone in the division's future.

Good post man! Ive been saying this for a long time! Haymon has helped LSC bank acct but other than that LSC has been treading water on boxing progression. LSC style requires him to be active not fighting twice a year. Good win by Frampton though I take nothing away from him, he was the underdog & did his thing. I had it 8-4 maybe 7-5 but a clear win by the Irishman.
