Comments Thread For: Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol: What About the Fight?

By Cliff Rold - It 'shouldn't be on pay per view.' Have we got the whine du jour out of the way? Probably not. That's too bad. One of the biggest complaints among boxing fans is that the best don't fight the best. That isn't the case this weekend...

bingo, hit the nail right on the head. This is exactly what I was talking about when everyone was saying how Pacquiao Broner would have been a fight worth paying for but Pacquiao Vargas was such a garbage fight. Broner hasn't done squat at 147, doesnt have a title, fights in a defense first style, has lost every time he has stepped up against any of the big names at 147. The only thing Broner brings to the table are ridiculous antics which is embarassing because hes just trying to mimic Mayweather to a T. On the other hand Vargas is coming off a big knockout win of Sadam Ali, has the WBO title, is a top 7 or so WW, fights coming forward, and his only loss he was robbed at the end. Its the hardcore fans and especially on this site who blabber and complain about the casuals and want to see the competitive fights but really care more about antics and name recognition instead of what really matters. Here we have the 2 best light welters, undefeated champions number 1 and 2 in the division, both coming off big knockout wins, really doesn't get any better than this yet people on here complaining that it's on PPV. Personally I care much less about name recognition and much more about the things that actually matter. Hope you guys have fun watching Wilder arreola and guerrero martinez type fights on PBC, I'll be more than happy to shell out 60 bucks to watch a fight that actually matters

Its the difference between sitting at home and eating ramen noodles or going out to the chinese buffet. Sure ramen noodles don't taste bad and they are very inexpensive. But as a connoisseur of good food I would much rather spend the 15 dollars every once in awhile and eat my favorite food and really enjoy the experience. A true fan of boxing would much rather spend 60 dollars to watch this fight in HD than to watch some of these b.s. PBC mismatches. It's like the difference in smoking a phillies blunt cigar with no weed or anything just plain and smoking a 20 dollar Cuban Montecristo. Theres levels to this ish

clash of contrasting styles....Crawford with his offensive A game and postol with his defensive A game....if craw can consistently get inside postols long reach and spiling tactic he should win with a late stoppage....if it go's to points then I would expect postol to have controlled the distance and if that's the case won more rounds than Crawford.....I personally think Crawford has that extra gear when he needs it and puts on a great finish to stop him late...great match up of styles and so looking forward to this

People always find a reason to complain! Here we have the two best guys at 140 in there primes, undefeated, ready to make a statement to the boxing world. So what it's on PPV! I guess Mayweather & Manny are the only ones who can fight on PPV! I guess Khan vs Canelo was PPV worthy! Mayweather only looks for a name to help sell tickets just as Manny & Canelo does! Those guys don't look to fight the best unless you people consider Khan & Berto was the best fights that could have been made. Thurman vs Porter was a great fight! These are the fights boxing should be happy to see instead of finding a reason to complain. So what PBC is on free TV, majority of the matches are mismatches!

Very good read. To me, the moral is geared towards hard core boxing fans (in the United States) that refuse to shell out a mere 50 bucks just because the name recognition isn't there for the casual fans. And that moral is...if you don't support your sport...it could indeed become even more irrelevant than it has become over the last several years.

"What one pays for is what they really want. If this weekend is deemed not worth the money, and less competitive (on paper) contests are, then doesn’t the customer bear some responsibility for the market they participate in? Isn’t the customer setting the standard?"

The customer does set the standard, but it is driven by who they root for/support or who do they want to see lose. The easiest examples over the past 10 years or so are Floyd and Pacquiao. Canelo falls in the line of fighters that people root for (like Pac).

While there are fans that do root for Floyd, the majority of PPV buyers want to see him lose. The opposite was in the case of Pac (more wanted to see him win).

In this case, not enough people know about Crawford and especially Postol to make this be logical as a main event for a PPV even though they are the two best fighters in the division. They have to have a large following (Cotto, Pac, Canelo, Floyd) to make it be lucrative
