  • Comments Thread For: K. Porter: I Hope Thurman is a Man of His Word, Gives Rematch

Kenny Porter, father and trainer of Shawn Porter (26-2, 16KOs), is hoping WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (27-0, 22KOs) is a 'man of his word' and gives them the rematch he promised to provide.

It was a close fight but Porter gave away the championship rounds.

I was rooting for Porter and as good as the fight was and whatnot, its one of those fights that satisfies you for the time being. A rematch would look VERY similar right now. Id rather see them fight other people, itd be more entertaining, something new. Thurman-Garcia would be great and Porter-Khan or viceversa.

Great fight but no need for a rematch anytime soon

8-4 for Thurman now he's on to bigger things, Porter goes to the back of line

Go for it. Rather see a rematch of one of the best fights of the year than have Thurman fight some tuneup while waiting on Garcia.

If there is to be a rematch, I'd love for it to happen when both guys have accomplished more against other quality opposition. Due to Floyd and Manny having retired, the gulf in class between the current top WW's is no longer so glaringly obvious.

Thurman, Garcia, Brook, Spence (eventually), Khan (lol), Porter, Guerrero, would love to see Lamont Peterson move up, Bradley, Broner etc.

The best part for me, is that due to there being no one supremely talented fighter in the division, even the B Class/Second Tier fighters will prove interesting opponents for the current crop of top guys. Limited guys like Algieri, Berto, Ortiz can provide decent challenges for the top guys, which means "tune ups" between A and B fighters can be a lot more competitive than any fight involving Floyd or Manny.

No thanks. As great of a fight as it was, the rematch can wait. I'd rather watch them fight other top fighters. Thurman vs. Garcia, Porter vs. Khan?

Porter should try his title aspiration through Danny Garcia because I dont see an immediate rematch...Thurman has nothing to prove again with Porter.

I'd like to see the rematch at some point. I think Thurman wins it by a wider margin next time though. I think people forget Thurman was a little rusty for this fight and didn't have the best camp. He still pulled it off though.
