Sounds like GBP is where the smart money is at. The money offer sounds better + the promoter partnership is what I suspect really peaks Mikey's interest as I stand firm in my belief the Garcia family intends to start a promotional company and this would be a decent enough way to birth it and get it moving in the right direction.

The only upside with Haymon/Mayweather seemed to be that it's a short term deal. He threw in the additional benefit of fighting in July or August but Mikey who gives a f#ck at this point if he fights in July or September + I highly suspect GBP can get Mikey a get the rust off fight whenever needed on Estrella or on some HBO undercard worst case anyway.

i think 135-140 is a bit of a blindspot in PBC's roster at the moment as well. not too many exciting opponents for mikey on that side of the fence right now

who does Golden Boy actually have at 135-140?

He has done a great job with Badou Jack. The guy has been guided from a bad KO loss to winning the title to defending it twice. And now he has a nice money fight with James Degale coming up for the right to be called the best super middleweight in the world.

Mickey Bey has gotten several world title opportunites as has Ishe Smith. And J'Leon Love is in line for a big fight with Chavez Jr.

Floyd puts his boxers in good positions, better than they deserve probably. Sometimes they make the most of it and sometimes they don't but that part is on them.

Robert is at a different stage now then he was back then. If he agreed to train a fighter that already had manager and promotional ties that's one thing and he doesn't complain. What I'm talking about is right now Garcia is actively funneling and sending his hot prospects directly to sign with Golden Boy. That's the difference. Garcia clearly has a bias to golden boy because every other day fighters in his gym are inking with Golden Boy. And he has voiced his displeasure with Mayweather in the past I never heard him calling out Top Rank or Golden Boy back in the day.

we'll see. If Mikey signing with Haymon/Mayweather Promotions brings more regular dates to SoCal, I'm fairly certain that Robert Garcia will have some pause.

Oscar De La Hoya will always be Oscar De La Hoya; a Mexican-American superstar from East LA will have a dynamic amount of drawing potential for SoCal kids developing in Oxnard/Riverside.

If Floyd/Haymon is able to shift that adoration/attention onto young kids growing up, wanting to fight like and be Mikey Garcia, the "Oscar effect" will be lessened.

If the aim is seemingly to launch 'Garcia Boxing Promotions', I don't see whay Mikey Garcia would lock himself into a longtern deal with a company that doesn't have consistent TV.

I'm kinda surprised Mikey seems to be legit considering any promoter. I think he's a solid enough name, even with his inactivity, to be one of these Thurman, Porter, Broner, Santa Cruz guys who are freelancing promoters.

To me the potential big upside here is that if Mikey could get on Canelo undercards I think he could get right back on track really fast + get even bigger than he ever was. And GBP seems to have a good relationship with HBO + they have their Estrella deal. Granted Estrella probably isn't the place Mikey wants to be longterm nor would it even make sense long term, but I could see GBP getting him some rust off fights on Estrella & then get him on a HBO card before the end of the year along with a spot on Canelo's Sept card.

If/when Mikey Garcia catches fire again, do you not think that Haymon would be willing to back Mikey's cards with TV?

I was actually thinking Mikey was low-key with Haymon already. I would think Haymon would have nabbed up Mikey for himself already (without the Floyd connection the deal seems to include) as Mikey would be a great addition to the PBC brand which is lacking in high profile, quality Mexican fighters. I mean right now PBC's most broad appeal Mexican fighter is arguably Chavez Jr. (Santa Cruz is probably a solid #2 & a guy who gets much more respect as a boxer obviously) who feels more like a novelty act than a real talent. So if this offer is as 2nd place as it sounds I'm a lil disappointed Haymon didn't make a bigger play at him now as I think Mikey could be one of the faces of PBC boxing with his KO friendly style, nice & smart guy persona. But yea I guess Haymon could make another offer later, but it seems like nows the time to get him at a better place.

He should have signed up with Haymon as soon as he settled his 2 year case with Arum. Let's face it, he, like many, got attracted with the idea of fighting bums and make millions out of it.

Doesn't make any sense in going with GBP when we have examples like Matthysse and Lemieux who were immediately thrown into the lion's den. Matthysse was given Postol for $500K, while Crawford got $1.2 million for fighting Lundy. Difference is huge. Just imagine how much Crawford would make from a Matthysse fight.

You didn't read the article? They certainly seemed to steer it like the GBP deal was the better deal money wise + was better for the Garcia family promotion that I suspect we will soon see takeover. Plus Garcia would likely be piggybacking on Canelo PPV undercards which could help transition him into a PPV draw in theory.

Based on that article I'd certainly bet on Mikey signs with anyone that it'd be GBP. Although I still am kinda hoping he signs with nobody & just freelances if Haymon will sign him up without pushing him into a deal with Mayweather Promotions as that article appeared to suggest to me. Doesn't really make sense to me that Mikey would be forced to sign with a promoter when plenty of PBC freelance more or less.
