Comments Thread For: Wilder, DiBella Begin The Legal War With Povetkin, Ryabinsky

Deontay Wilder will get to defend his heavyweight title at home as well as have his fight with Alexander Povetkin. Only, his upcoming July 16 title fight will come versus Chris Arreola. Meanwhile, his "fight" with Povetkin previously scheduled for a ring in Moscow on May 21 will now take place in a courtroom in New York City.

Apparently, the suit details what a difficult time Lou had getting Povetkin's team to begin drug testing.

WoB was on the other side of the equation in a similar situation, also cited in the lawsuit. Its cruiserweight, Denis Lebedev was denied the opportunity to rematch Guillermo Jones – who produced a positive post-fight drug test following their fight in May ’13, in which Jones won by dramatic 11th round knockout in one of the best fights of the year.

Their May ’14 rematch was cancelled on fight night, when it was learned by the World Boxing Association (WBA) – whose cruiserweight title was at stake – that Jones’ pre-fight test came back dirty, thus forcing the alphabet organization to remove its sanctioning from the event.

WoB won a $2 million settlement versus Jones and promoter Don King, but now is placed on the other side of the equation.
I had forgotten all about that.

If Ryabinsky successfully sued for essentially the same thing with Lebedev vs Jones then it's hard to see him being on the winning side this time around.

Drug testing is another nail in boxing's coffin. This is an example of the drug war of powerful rich camps using and hiding drugs in their guys, tainting and framing the other guys, lawsuit BS, bans and ******ed sanctioning bodies ***ing up everything along the way. Everything except for good fights. Anyone who believes the test results at face value is extremely naive at the least. Wilder's current and past opponents show Wilder and his camp want nothing to do with serious heavyweights.

Keep in mind Jones tested positive two fights in a row with Lebedev so they claimed King should have taken precautions the second time around.
