  • Comments Thread For: Martin Murray: Golovkin Beats All at 160, Canelo Don't Want It

Super middleweight contender Martin Murray holds the current record as the only fighter to extend Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) to the eleventh round. Their fight, which took place last February in Monaco, was the closest any fighter had come to lasting the twelve round distance with GGG. Golovkin has stopped his last 22 opponents.

Yeah, but the TripleHaters and Fleasels' comprehension isn't so great here... they'll be calling him a bum, saying he DKSAB and the like...

GGG is an absolute wrecking ball of a fighter - but with skills as well as power, brains as well as brawn, and a great chin too.

He will not be beaten by Jacobs, Quillin, Saunders or anyone, and it's no wonder Ward waited till he had a fight booked to then produce a lowball 'offer'.

Ward can't be trusted - he's dodged fights and is now whining about being 'forced' to move up etc. He tried to make a mismatch so poor it didn't even get sanctioned. Meanwhile, Golovkin smiles and just says "I am open for business" and will fight anyone.

        I know who I believe.

Golovkin has a 3 letter nickname, GGG, but by the time his career is over, I have a feeling we'll be calling him by another 3 letter nickname...

          T. B. E. The Best Ever. We haven't seen anyone dominate like this. You have defensive fighters who win almost every round by potshotting and holding, and by that definition they are dominant, but when have we seen an offensive fighter like this who wins every round even though he actually fights clean, and also KOs his opponents?

We've seen defensive fighters who win every round with cheap tactics, but don't hurt their opponents. We've seen knockout punchers who don't win every round, but eventually catch and hurt their opponents and KO them. We've rarely seen a fighter who wins every round, and then KOs his opponents, all while fighting clean, never initiating holds, and never running or potshotting.

We've also seen KO artists before, but with bad chins. When have we ever seen a boxer who was at the same time the biggest KO artist in boxing, but also the best chin, statistically, in boxing? He's a rocket launcher and an iron wall in the same fighter. He wins every round, which means his boxing and points ability is the best. He KOs everyone, which means his ability to hurt and knock guys out is the best. And he's never been knocked down, which means his invulnerability is the best.

Just simply the best ever. He may not ever get to big fights because everyone ducks him, but statistically, and on ability, you can tell he's second to none. Imagine little Sugar Ray Leonard trying that gameplan he tried vs Hagler against GGG. Hagler couldn't consistently cut off the ring all night. GGG cuts off the ring on everyone. He would have killed the body early. And many consider SRL the best ever. Well GGG is on another level at 160. He's getting old now but the guy who fought Proksa was as close to unbeatable as any prize fighter you'll ever see. There's a reason Danny Jacobs and Canelo keep ducking him.

Ward is about the money. He didn't want to fight anyone good so long as HBO was paying him 2 mil to fight nobodies. Only after HBO exiled him to BET and told him he had to fight GGG or Kovalev to get back on HBO did he, finally, give in to fighting GGG, because out of those two options, GGG was worth more money and was the smaller fighter. But before then, he kept talking about tuneups, and didn't want GGG or Kovalev. Once HBO made clear that was the only way they would air his fights, and once Roc Nation I guess said they would pay good money if he could get a pay per view fight, then he went after GGG and eventually settled for Kovalev, assuming that even happens and Ward doesn't pull out like Wilder. But no, Ward was never chasing that GGG fight back when he was on the TBD gravy train of opponents.

The thing with Murray is he could almost be a 2 divisions world champion.

Most people saw him beating Sturm at 160 and many saw him beating Abraham at 168 but he lost those 2 fights in Germany by SD.

Hope for once they will secure this guy a world title in UK, why not a well deserved rematch with Sturm for the WBA belt?

He'll have to beat Groves first, not an easy task, Martin is good but Groves is bigger and might outgun him.

                  I am interested in Eubank Jr@ 160.

Golovkin probably wrecks him but there is something about the Eubanks' that make you have a bit of belief in them. Well me anyway.

If he has his Dad's chin he'll take Golovkin the distance.

That fight will likely happen now Canelo apparently having no intention whatsoever of fighting him.

I like Martin, but he clearly lost to Abraham and it was a draw at best with a faded Sturm.

He's a solid fighter, but little more than that. I hope he beats Groves and gets another title shot, but I think even this faded version of Groves will beat him.
