  • Comments Thread For: Sullivan Barrera Parts From Abel Sanchez, Hires New Trainer

Light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (17-1) has been back in the gym for several weeks as he eagerly awaits the phone call that will give him his next assignment. Barrera is looking to bounce back from his first career loss which took place in March against Andre Ward. There is no shame in losing to a top three pound-for-pound fighter and Barrera is ready for any of the top names in the division.

all trainers should be unrealistic and tell fighters they are great when they really aren't.

Did you see the post fight interviews after he faced ward?

you can be realistic without putting your own fighter down....thats backwards

he could have took some heat for not giving much instruction in the corner. but he blamed it on the level his fighter is on

the trainer is to help you improve

maybe sanchez didn't want to work with his bummy ass anymore? what can he do with a guy who has no passion or fire and just stands there for 12 rounds? can you improve on the will to win?yeah he would make some more paychecks but barrera isn't getting anymore big paychecks so what's the point. if ggg fought like a comatose bum then i wouldn't expect sanchez to say well he was great out there. then again ggg brings money so he would probably lie.

This guy Sanchez went as far as calling his own 34 year old fighter unexperienced and untalented to boost his own ego after the loss to Ward, Barrera probably didn't like that his own trainer didn't believe in him and decided to leave and rightfully so, hopefully we don't get the irrational nonsenical trash talk that we always get from Sanchez about Barrera and hopefully Barrera can bounce back, no shame in losing to Andre Ward.

why would anyone believe in him after watching him fight? they might believe in the money that they can make off him but thats not much.

no shame in losing but shame in fighting like a comatose bum. even guys who lost like kessler and froch showed fire and kept trying to win. ward might have clinched the life out of them in order to win but at least they tried. barrera was content with jabbing and getting outpointed after saying he would never stop coming and putting pressure on ward, then he shriveled up like costanza's weiner not to mention he got dropped by one of the biggest pillow punchers in the sport. what can you do with him? sanchez kept it together by not leaving after the round barrera got dropped in. give sanch credit fo that.

Can't blame him. He's going to a lesser known trainer in hopes that he'll get some more one-on-one time.
