Comments Thread For: Parker's Coach Confident His Boxer Will Succeed Where Tua Failed

Kevin Barry believes he and Team Parker are better equipped for their world title bid than David Tua's failed challenge in 2000. Joseph Parker earned the mandatory right to challenge IBF belt holder Anthony Joshua after scoring a unanimous points win over France's Carlos Takam in their eliminator in south Auckland last Saturday night.

Can you imagine tua leaning over the ropes in the 6th round, wheezing, getting his head jabbed off by a middle aged french journeyman?

Parker isn't half the fighter Tua was.... But Joshua can't be mentioned in the same breath as Lennox either.

Naah he is not to be compared with Tua.

He is not going to win against Anthony Joshua for sure.

Parker was keeping his hands too low during the Takam fight. if he does that against Joshua, he will end up sleeping on the canvas.

Not everyone was blessed enough to have a Charles Martin as heavyweight champion. At this stage in Lewis' career Evander Holyfield was holding the titles and then Rid**** Bowe after him - two guys that are better then anything this era has had.

Even his fellow New Zealanders think Joseph Parker isn't all that.

Can only hope he develops and becomes a better fighter.

Can't help feeling Parker picked the wrong sport. He may not end up an elite level boxer, though I do think he's world class.

But what if he'd taken up rugby instead though? With his dimensions, a back-row forward, or maybe even a winger, along the lines of Jonah Lomu (RIP).

Imagine having to face down Parker doing the haka in the all-black of NZ? #holy***** #getmeouttahere

Having him sponsored by Burger King isn't a good start.

Im glad they stepped his level of competition up. But at the same time it has swung a lot of peoples opinion of his ability.

Youve got to remember thats what fights like that are for. Its alright koing bum after bum, but you dont learn anything from that. No doubt his team have seen his defensive flaws and will work to improve them. If thats the case no one can say how far he will go
