  • Comments Thread For: HBO's Lampley on Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin

"A final word. Several months ago Canelo Alvarez's promoter Oscar de la Hoya accurately expressed that boxing is still struggling to escape the painful hangover from Mayweather-Pacquaio, a fight which attracted millions of general public consumers at spectacularly inflated prices and left them with a profoundly negative impression. And everyone in boxing agrees the entertainment level would have been far higher if that fight had taken place years earlier.

No he didnt and if Vince Phillips can take care of KT Oscar probably would have to , you just cannot compare their resumes as far who fought far better competition , I dont think KT could beat any of the those elite guys Oscar Mosley Tito , KT was a great fighter but just a smudge below them .

Article is pretty much spot on , I reckon the fight will get made for this year , we can dismiss the weight BS because Canelo made the statement and it would be hard to go back on that the media would shred him .

Fight will go on , neither of these 2 have the stalling power Manny and Floyd had , I think it will get made pretty quick .,,, fingers crossed .

Kostya Tyzsu ran from 147.... Oscar would have whooped him had he tried to step foot into the WW division.

Oscar fought ever one from his generation that was of note and fought guys that were obviously out of his generation as well.

People can say whatever they want to about Oscar but the fact of matter is that the man dared to be great and ducked no man.

Hopefully this new generation takes some notes.

Yes he did fight everybody and was at one stage one of my favourite fighters...he was fearless....but he seems to have forgot this as a promoter and he's simply putting the wishes of the fans and boxing world secondary to his business now for fear of canelo losing and that's not right..considering the fact he has said he wants to put together the best fights out there...the difference now is we will not put up with another mayweather vs pacquaio wait..that's the good thing that's come out from that fight..no more bull**** ..if canelo wins and golovkin loses and it's a brilliant fight make a rematch and make more money....and vice versa if golovkin wins ...great fighters do get beat and still come back from it , look at the Durans,Leonard's and hearns they all lost but still became legends and entered into even bigger fights...we have to return to this type match ups

U hear wrong! It did over 650K. Your BOYCOTT didn't do sht! MAYBE 97 fans didn't see it but GGG was right there.... Canelo didn't even watch that POS Wade / GGG. Which HBO gave away for FREE during that weekend.

To be fair you can't say he isn't putting his champions in tough. Perfect examples David Lemeiux faces GGG, Fransico Vargas is facing Orlando Saildo. Most promoters give their champions med level competition when they make their first defenses not face tough competition right off the bat.

I do believe Oscar will make the fight with GGG this year.
