Ortiz is as unknown a talent as Joshua to me. So far the 3 notable people he's fought or are about to fight, in this case, are a HW with no power & two guys older than him. Its like maybe they know something about him & are just trying to get this 37 year old to a position to cash out.
I like this fight because it positions him to fight the winner of Wlad-Fury if he wins. If Wlad wins and doesn't retire I expect Wlad to fight him. Wlad has never turned down #1 contenders. If Fury wins I expect him to go all out and push for the Joshua fight because he can make a ton of money and doesn't want anything to do with Ortiz.

well it's not as if the top guys are begging to fight him

they have to take what they can get. chasing a mandatory spot makes sense for such a dangerous fighter with such little upside

If Klitschko beats Fury & decides to fight Ortiz that'll tell me he thinks Ortiz ain't **** cuz he's always fought his bs #1 contenders & stretched out the threatening one vs Fury (& tried to put him in a bouncy castle ring). I suspect Klitschko retires win or lose. He should & I hope he does anyway.

If Fury wins I definitely expect him to go for the Wilder/Povetkin winner or Joshua or maybe even Haye if Haye does something impressive enough in the third quarter after this next bs fight he has scheduled. I understand this fight with Ustinov will be for an important position belt wise for Ortiz, but him vs anyone holds lil to no appeal still & he's beaten no one & in a justly ran boxing world wouldn't deserve a title shot after beating two guys older then him & a cat who can't punch. So I understand what he's doing & more power to GBP & Ortiz for taking that route, but if he's bypassed I think he's rightly bypassed cuz he doesn't deserve a title shot.

Yea I can understand that. There is a bit of a catch 22 for them for sure. I guess I'm just rougher on this guy cuz I don't see what other people are seeing in him. And I'm a Cuban amateur fanboy so there is every reason for me to jump on his bandwagon, but I'm just seeing him beat up on guys he's supposed to beat & for some reason being proclaimed the best guy in the division by way too many people.

It feels a lil surreal to me people hype this guy so much. And this isn't to say he sucks or anything, he's for sure a talent to have gotten where he is & done what he has done, but I just don't see this pending dominant force in the HW division.
