  • Comments Thread For: IBF Formally Orders Wake vs. Guzman 122-Pound Title Fight

Negotiations are officially underway for a vacant super bantamweight title fight between Japan's Shingo Wake and unbeaten Dominican knockout artist Jonathan Guzman.

The aforementioned bout was officially ordered by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), whose super bantamweight title became available after Carl Frampton severed all ties to the division in pursuit of a shot at featherweight beltholder Leo Santa Cruz.

The respective camps for Wake and Guzman will have 30 days to button up talks and agree to terms, which would limit the promotion to parties directly involved in such talks. Should they fail to do so, a purse bid hearing will be held on June 2, at which point any IBF-registered promoter would be eligible to secure the rights to the title fight.

Guzman will DOMINATE that Division Frampton is getting out just in time and Rigondeaux is not getting any younger and clearly made another terrible decision outside of the ring by signing with Roc Nation and nothing has changed he still doesn't have a fight

or, maybe its just not possible for ANY promoter, be it TR or Roc, to pay 750k purses to boring non-English speaking 122lbers who cant sell 10 tickets.

(and when I say "any promoter", I basically mean the ones that standard business economic rules apply to, and not ones that are willing to lose $1 million + per event)

So Guzman is defending this month ( Saturday 31 December 2016 ) vs. Yukinori Oguni ( 18-1-1 ) @ Shimazu Arena, Kyoto, Kyoto Japan. Interesting points Guzman has won all contest by KO ; he stopped his last opponent Shingo Wake almost the exact same way that Wake retired Oguni in 2013 ( just a prospect then with only eleven professional fights) , battered bruised and cut in the later rounds. Will Guzman continue his KO streak?...in addition to Guzman vs. Oguni we got a outstanding match with Kazuto Ioka #1 Flyweight in the world making his 5th title defense vs. undefeated Yutthana Kaensa.
