  • Comments Thread For: Hearn Refutes Cotto-Brook Rejection Claims

Over the weekend, rumours began to circulate claiming that HBO had reported that IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook had rejected the chance to face Miguel Cotto on June 18.

The statement appears to have originated on Facebook and hasn't been substantiated by any of the parties involved. Regardless, it spread quickly across social media platforms. Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn has reached out BoxingScene to refute the claims.

Let's be honest Hearn & Brook are only looking for one opponent and that's Khan at 147 at the end of the year. They are expecting him to get beat by Canelo then for Khan to jump for that fight.

They are seeking a half decent stay busy opponent in July now I think? Probably bottom tier of 147 atleast Chaves level I'd hope.

If not Khan then Thurman at the end of the year if Thurman beats Porter.

Cotto would be a better pick than Spence Jr. Way more exposure, better name on the resume, and a much better chance to win!

The cotto fight would be a huge money fight, and a huge platform to fight on. Cotto is well over the hill now, I don't think he's got much passion left for the sport, I could see brook taking him at this stage, and if he does that, he's a star, it's that simple

If i was hearn i would want this fight.

Brook needs to move on from khan and just fight ANY top 10 ranked welterweight. I don't care which one it is at this point any of them is better then the bums he's fighting. He lost all momentum from the porter fight.

Can't imagine any boxer in the entire world rejecting a fight with Cotto.

I definitely feel like Big Bro (Hearn) has been protecting Lil Bro (Brook) for awhile now so while that isn't a shocking thing if you put even a lil bit of thought into it, I also feel like Cotto would be a great style matchup for them & a fight they'd welcome with open arms due to the $ & obvious upsides they'd gain win or lose, to some degree, from that fight. And I have a hard time that the always difficult to deal with & picky Cotto would seek out a guy like Brook in the first place so I see this situation as more likely to be false than true.

Brooks been talking about big fights since 09. He has been unlucky with injuries but seems to never land the right fights.
Khan said he took a pay cut to fight Canelo over Brook but its about the elite names. Khan will lose and always have the brook fight.
Brook and Hearns talk too much and don't believe for 1 sec that Cotto would not want to fight him or scared.
Please Kell Brook fight someone decent so we can judge you at the elite level.

After Kell Brook won the belt, if you watch his interview, he mention that he was moving on to better fight, which have not happen. He said Khan would have to wait as he united the belts LOL
