Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Reflects on Bob Arum's 50 Year Run in Boxing

Fifty years ago this week Bob, Arum promoted his first fight, Muhammad Ali's heavyweight bout against George Chuvalo on March 29, 1966, in Toronto. Half a century on he is still arguably the best at what he does. At 84, he's showing no signs of slowing down, much less putting his feet up.

The Eubanks must have really pissed him off good and proper, he just can't let go of that.

Bob Arum, so much respect for how he has kept going. When you are getting old you look 'up' for encouragement at those who are old.

Most of the time you don't see or get much encouragement at all - just a catalog of health woes, financial issues and lack of quality lives.

Arum is a stand out beacon of light in terms of having all his faculties about him, living a life of vitality and being active doing something interesting and still making oodles of money.

Ok , he is a greedy liar. Everyone has a downside. But the rest still applies. Who knows? He may give loads to charity.

So the blueprint is there. Get a great education (or the best you can). Get specialized in something you love (as you won't be able to stick at it for 50 years if you don't love it). Be a detail hound and persistent as a ****** hound around a bitch in heat. Rinse and Repeat.

Bob Arum is a lying piece-of-****, nothing you said changes the fact that he is a self-absorbed greedy liar. So, bank-robbing is ok, so long as you donate some of the money to charity?

Bob Arum lies, cheats, and steals..... and he does NOT do it for the betterment of boxing..... he does it to line his own greedy pockets, at the expense of the fighters, and at the expense of the fans.

And so what if he made such-and-such-a-fight..... anybody in his position would have made those fights, AND MORE !!

The day he dies, Im'a say, good fkn riddance..... he has taken enough.

Well I did say he is a greedy liar.

I can separate out good points from bad points even when I am emotionally invested, which I'm not even regards Arum.

The trick is to get in that position in the first place. And I know of someone who is in that position or better who is copping flack for not making good fights (although, in mitigation it is early years compared to Arum's 1/2 century).

Fair call, but even if Haymon does lack in integrity (which is yet to be seen) that does not excuse or justify Arum.
