  • Comments Thread For: Chris Eubank Jr: I Backed Off During Nick Blackwell Fight

Chris Eubank Jr says he "backed off" during his fight against Nick Blackwell after receiving instructions from his father Chris Sr.

Blackwell has been in an induced coma and was found to have suffered a small bleed on the brain since collapsing at the end of Saturday's British middleweight title defeat by Eubank Jr.

I genuinely think Eubank jr means what he say's in all respects and he is world class .The referee was without a shadow of doubt far too late in doing anything in a fight that had slipped away from Nick many rounds previous to this ...Victor did NOT to his job and in my opinion and neither did his coach Gary Lockett who is normally on the pulse he seemed to get caught up the moment and missed the fact that Nick was hurt badly and finished , nothing left.

Again wishing Nick all the luck in the world and complete recovery and respect to Chris for his human stance.

      It was clear.

The biased commentators were trying to suggest it was due to him getting tired, but his engine is fantastic. He can do the 12 rounds no problem, he was clearly throwing less hurtful shots in 9 and 10 as he was in total control and aware of Blackwell being hurt due to the swelling and general look on his face.

All this has reminded me of equally if not more savage beatdowns like Pacquiao-Margarito and Vitali-Briggs, and how the idiot refs (two of the very worst in boxing – Laurence Cole and Ian John-Lewis, respectively) just would not stop the fights. I still cringe at the thought of those. Actually, fuck it – Margarito damn well deserved it.

A good kid like Blackwell did not, however, and neither does Eubank Jr. for having it 'on him' for the rest of his career. Much love and recovery to Blackwell, but I also feel for Jr. in that he hasn't been able to enjoy his British MW title win. He did an excellent job in there, even though it ended up being marred by the very nature (i.e. inherent danger) of the sport.

Warriors, both of them. :box2: Also props to the Eubanks for handling the situation in a mature way. I'm admittedly a Saunders fanboy through-and-through, but I hope he doesn't later make an issue out of this (e.g. "I'll rematch Jr. for revenge!" or something).

I admire Chris for that, especially so after the bad rap he got for knocking out novice sparring partner

Horrible ref. Nice job of SR noticing something and junior listening and going to the body. Some refs stop fight while guys swinging away this hopefully soon to be banned ref notices nothing. Universal Commission please finally to uphold ref and horrible scoring standards and most of all safety of fighters conclusions brain tests peds etc.

Sanctioning bodies, refs, scorers who all give opposition obviously on the take. Boxing only sport with no oversight insurance pension etc. grosses billions annually same promoters and 99% of fighters even legends die broke. Louis , Frazier , Liston, list goes on and on. Give entertainment , thrills, blood , sweat and tears. No one looks out for them fans would feed them lodge them for memories they gave quicker than millionaire promoters a disgrace

Fans should unite ban fights until legit program put in place you would be surprised how quick lack of income would cause change. Rafael, atlas, manny, Freddy , Haymon , Oscar, who will step up? Reading a bible is nice living it harder or Koran or Old Testament
