Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker's Promoter Rips Shannon Briggs: Stop Running!

According to Dean Lonergan, promoter for undefeated heavyweight contender Joseph Parker, he made a lucrative offer to former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs - who rejected the terms without a counter-offer.

What's his definition of "lucrative offer"? What does old man Briggs have to gain by fighting some Aussie no-name? It's "LETS GO, CHAMP!", not "LETS GO, PROSPECT!"

            1. Australia's Canada, then
            2. Former 2 division champ with more mass appeal than Parker. The way the landscape is now Haye will likely win his 5th world title before Parker gets his 1st.

Funny how the landscape has Parker and Ortiz sitting on the outside, waiting for that step into the club. I see how it works, but it is a pain in the ass.
Joshua has walked into the club (not without Fury and Haye and others before him, having set that stage for him to make the entrance onto), Haye has slinked his name onto the list after 2 years of being roundly dismissed, and most amazingly- Briggs, off the back of a win almost 20 years ago, and a relentless round of raising a profile through the boxing press, has miraculously convinced some that he is above having to beat a notable contender to get a shot.
I'd rather see Briggs have to go through Ortiz, Parker or another notable contender to put us through the one sided drubbing we'd inevitably have to witness. You know, I can already see Briggs getting his fight and the whole journey bores me already. If he beats a live contender to get the shot, then I'd be way more interested, but I see this known quantity getting a shot, and the well trodden path playing out, while Ortiz and Parker are sat outside given time to fade, fall or show enough to make a deal quantifiable.

I understand why it is this way, but I'm feeling childishly hopeful and impatient to see Ortiz and Parker get the telling fights.

That doesn't make any sense, parker's next fight is for a shot at a world title.
David haye just fought a bodybuilder and is looking for another bum to feast on..

I thought the Takam/Parker winner is mandated to the Joshua/Martin winner ?

Why would they select Briggs ?
