Comments Thread For: DiBella Aims To Get Avtandil Khurtsidze a World Title Shot

New York, NY - The last two years have been somewhat of a roller coaster ride for Avtandil Khurtsidze. A native of Kutaisi, Georgia, Khurtsidze moved to Brooklyn at the beginning of 2014 to resume his promising boxing career that had been put on hold for two and a half years following his December 2011 win over Ossie Duran for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight championship. Khurtsidze signed with DiBella Entertainment and got his career back on track in July of that year. Over the next 13 months, Khurtsidze scored four consecutive knockout victories, as he awaited a shot against one of the top names in the 160lb. division.

canelo and saunders aren't going anywhere near him so ggg is his only hope unless you count jacobs as champ so that would be a good fight. dibella could make that happen and jacobs needs an opponent so...do it

Article leaves out that Khurtsidze was supposed to fight Giovanni Lorenzo last month but missed the weight and fight was canceled last second, making him available for Douglass after Soliman pulled out (for another opportunity...)

Sad to think as inactive as Khurtsidze has been over the last 3 years that a win over a good prospect is all it takes for him to start talking about a title shot. I'd like to see him knock off Tureano, but Korobov or Lemieux would be a better fights.

Khurtsidze is a bit of a danger man, I think he can be outboxed - N'dam did a pretty good job though the fight could have gone either way, but no one is going to have an easy ride with him. Right now he's definitely going to be considered fairly high risk / very low reward. If Lemieux can get his ass into shape that'd be a good fight, Johnson also.

In terms of title fights the Georgian obviously needs to earn his stripes first but I'd say BJS - Khurtsidze would make for a very interesting match-up too. BJS has the skills to diffuse the shorter man but could he handle the relentless pressure?

Khurtsidze vs. Quillen in the Barclay's!! Put it on the undercard of Jacobs' next fight! I still want to see Lara step up to 160 and fight Jacobs!

He does a reasonable job of imitating Mike Tyson's style. Maybe he can hook up with Teddy Atlas sometime, or perhaps drag Kevin Rooney out of retirement and his alcohol problems.
