Comments Thread For: Sulaiman: Pacquiao Fighting in The Rio Olympics is Ridiculous

Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao's announced readiness to fight in the Rio de Janiero Olympic Games some four months from now - if he was asked and that he would be proud to represent the Philippines - has been criticized by World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman.

The WBC originally wanted pro fighters in the Olympics, criticising the monopoly the AIBA have as the sole representative of Boxing in the Olympics

They are singing a different tune now that they are allowing it, just without the WBC

Its ridiculous for sure. Its ridiculous whoever does it.

I feel like this is maybe that AIBA guy's first big move to try to "take over boxing" which I believe he has designs to do. I think the problem is I'm not sure anyone wants to see Pacquiao (or Mayweather or GGG or any notable pro) fight teenagers in three 3min rounds or 5 2min rounds or whatever they do these days & where a punch that stuns you gets you a S8C.

Getting dunked on is different than getting punched in the face

Maybe the guy would like to represent his country and try to win a gold medal...and imagine if some young ameteur comes in and beats Manny Pacquaio, that's a lifetime story for him and possibly a launching pad to stardom when he turns pro. Not to mention the eyeballs that would be on the matches...

I'd watch for sure if some pros got in..

ya no doubt but i do think the idea is to get all pros like they do for nhl for example. its a cool idea but i think the no head gear is enough to add entertainment. i get it totally but at same time if they are going to do that there needs to at least be an age limit
