ANAHEIM, Calif. Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz defended his WBA Featherweight World Championship in convincing fashion on Saturday night, knocking down Kiko "Sensacin" Martinez twice in the first round, then ending it on a barrage of punches as the fight was called at 2:09 in the fifth round in the main event of a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Yup! Funny how that works out. But now he needs to step up. He's in a stacked division. 122-130 are some of the best 3 divisions around!

Martinez was never going to win the fight, but he did throw some serious leather and won a couple rounds. Wonder how Santa Cruz would stack up now against the guys at the very top? Lomachenko is one who comes to mind. Gary Russell Jr another. Nicholas Walters, Lee Selby. A bunch of talent and some potentially great matchups should start coming together. Enough with the 2nd bests. Time for Leo to take on the real threats.

Its clear as day that Kiko is damaged goods no way would a weak powder puff puncher like LSC hurt a prime Kiko.
I still stick by my guns Quigg and Frampton would be too big and strong for him plus LSC couldn't hurt either.

People are fools to sleep on this guy. Throwing 570 punches in under 5 rounds and connecting over 40% it a problem for anyone in the division. Granted, the opposition wasn't top tier but he was GAME that night and was bringing hell. I'm less impressed by a flashy guy like Loma who loses to the Salidos of the world vs a guy like LSC who can pour it on in volume and deal with someone crafty like Mares.

Agreed 100%! His ability to dictate space and tempo, combined with a work rate that is 2nd to none. This kid is a problem for anyone not named rigo......and even that fight may create intrigue.
