Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach Warns: Don't Count Khan Out Completely

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is not ruling out the possibility of Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) pulling off the upset on May 7th, when he moves up by eight-pounds to challenge Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) for the WBC middleweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Anything can happen in the sport of boxing, if Khan can fight strong in the beginning then start to fight a Lara type fight later I can see him winning some rounds and probably going the distance, however I don't give him more than a 10% chance of winning the fight.

Khan truly has to turn in a perfect 12-round fight to win a decision and I've never seen him do that before against another top fighter. Much less one with significant advantages over him.

If he has tremendously more speed then that could help but I don't think he's going to clock in much faster than Alvarez when it really counts.

Could not agree with you more. Khan has to be perfect.

I also think Canelo will walk through his punches, which will mean a late stoppage for Canelo. I don't think Khan has hurt anyone at Welterweight. Could be wrong....
Also he struggled a bit with Algeri and Algeri was able to catch Khan flush.

Unless Khan is perfect, I can't see him winning this fight.

Who punches harder - Khan or Lara?
Who has better footwork - Khan or Lara?
Who has better body movement - Khan or Lara?

Who punches harder? - Khan or Cotto?
Who has better defense - Khan or Cotto?

Khan doesn't have the footwork of Lara (or Mayweather) to keep away from Canelo for 12 rounds, and even so Canelo caught up with Lara in the closing rounds. Canelo was not shaken by anything Cotto threw, although Cotto didn't plant his feet. Cotto knew better than to plant his feet.

Best thing Khan can do is go spar with Golovkin with body padding and try to stay away from Golovkin for round after round.

Roach and all the others are part of the boxing establishment - you will see more and more of these interviews and comments as we get closer to the fight date - it's all to support a circus match-up.

I wouldn't count him fully out, but doubt he withstand the power shots

Roach must be really worried. He's not predicting a KO.
