Manny had an uncanny ability to read fights and fighters. It was unbelievable and I have not witnessed it from anyone else, it was his gift. Was he right 100% of the time?...no he isn't a fortune teller. But he was right A LOT. It wasn't just before the fight either, often he could see within a round or two where the fight was headed even if it wasn't obvious to me or anyone else. I saw it happen on many HBO telecasts.

There is one example of an instance that I remember where he actually got it wrong and at the same time almost got it right. It was Taylor-Pavlik I, and he was asked something along the lines of "how do you think Jermain is going to deal with the constant pressure and volume of pavlik?" His answer was along the lines of "the fight won't last that long", and he followed it up with that he thought Taylor will stop Pavlik within 2-3 rounds. He basically could see already that Pavlik was going to walk onto something early and get himself in trouble. What he didn't anticipate was that Pavlik would pick himself up off the canvas, survive (barely) and eventually take over. But even though his prediction ended up being wrong he could see a passage of the fight which had not happened, and he did it so many times over his career that you know when Manny said it it was not luck. Unbelievable guy.
