Comments Thread For: Fury's Coach Feels Martin is Just as Good as Deontay Wilder

Peter Fury, uncle and trainer of WBO/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, saw impressed by last Saturday's performance from unbeaten Charles Martin, who captured the vacant IBF belt with a third round TKO of Czar Glazkov at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Haha, this was a huge slap in the face to Wilder and I love it.

If Peter Fury says he's good then he must be good.

Fury's coach is right. Although bum squad is improving with every outing he's only fighting bums so it's hard to tell how good he really is. Blame the WBC, because bum squad Wilder is the only fighter they won't make fight his mandatory.

IF, Peter Fury does not rate Wilder, because Wilder has not faced top competition..... then how can he rate Martin, for beating an injured Glazkov?

Methinks that Fury be trolling Wilder like a man possessed

I respect Peter Fury a lot but I can't share his sentiments on Martin, not yet at least. What I saw against Glazkov didn't impress me at all, nor did any of the other footage I managed to get hold of him. Wilder might be hilarious but he's capable of impressive feats and has the speed and power to make up for his technical deficiencies. Martin has nothing. He's slow, sloppy, doesn't seem to hit particularly hard, looks totally unconditioned, and fights in a manner that even Robert Helenius would call robotic. I hope to be proved wrong, as there's nothing wrong with having another good heavyweight in the division, but really I'm not going to hold my breath with this guy.

Wilder is way better than Martin. That's just insulting.

Martin might turn out to be another Tony Thompson like fighter, someone who's way better than the apparent sum of their parts. That'd be cool. Maybe that's what Peter Fury is seeing. Or maybe he's just trolling.
