Comments Thread For: Andy Lee: Saunders Deserved Win, Knockdowns Cost Me

Former champion Andy Lee admits he was validly beaten by Billy Joe Saunders on December 19th in Manchester. Lee lost his WBO middleweight championship by way of a majority decision. Two judges saw it for Saunders based on scores of 114-112 and 115-111, while a third had it a 113-113 draw.

Those 2 KD's really did cost him.
I thought he was winning the third

They could rematch. I think a easy voluntary, another one if they can get away with it then mando

Andy Lee is one of boxing's nice guys, an honest guy and a good fighter. I'm gad he got to win a belt in his career and even though the real middleweight championship of the world was not involved in Manchester, and wouldn't be should a rematch occur, I'd still like to see Lee and Saunders go at it again. The early knockdowns made the difference, as Andy admits, and he'd run the risk of the same happening again if pressing too hard and leaving openings for the quick Saunders to expoit, but next time Lee would surely need to land some heavy stuff of his own in the first half of the fight and slow Saunders enough to get on top before those late, too late, rounds come into play. I'd pay to see if he could achieve that, and would be happy if he could because I like the man, but Saunders' self belief will have been raised big time and as long as that doesn't translate into big head complacency I'd expect Billy Joe to repeat with something to spare.

BILLY'S BACK IS HITTING THE ROPES SEVERAL TIMES..AND I PROMISE TO GOD LEE DIDNT THROW A COMBO WHILE IT TOUCHED THE ROPES UNTIL THE 11TH OR 12TH ROUND...and he won that round!...this guy could have shoe shined to a victory or draw...instead he just picked up his shoe with unthreatening feints...I'LL NEVER WATCH U AGAIN ANDY! Tili has a point, Lee was far too tentative after being knocked down twice. The latter part of the fight was rather boring with both men refusing to commit and trying to box it out, obviously this suited Saunders.

Andy Lee vs Eubank Jr is a fight I want to see, it's like the 90s all over again. Where is the third Brit at middleweight doe.

Nah, if Saunders can't get a big fight this is totally plausible

Andy should push Lou to get him the Jacobs fight in NY. That should be an exciting and very winnable fight for Lee that would get him back into position for a big money shot at GGG/Canelo. Warren's not risking Saunders anytime soon, that's his only fighter and he intends to try and develop him like he did Calzaghe/Hatton.
