  • Comments Thread For: Ike Ibeabuchi Hires Koncz, Wants To Gain World Title Shot

In one of the more unexpected stories to close out the year, one-time top heavyweight contender Ike Ibeabuchi is planning to make a comeback at 43-years-old.

The heavyweight has been out of the ring since March 20th of 1999, when he knocked out Chris Byrd in five rounds. It was the first defeat for Byrd. Many remember Ibeacbuchi's HBO televised twelve round war with huge puncher David Tua in 1997, which saw Tua suffer his first career defeat by decision.

Immigration is nuts. AFTER prison he was held by immigration for 21 more months. Wtf they keeping them guys hemmed up for that long for. Holy **** man. Remember Angulo had a similar situation where he was holed up by immigration for almost a year iirc.

This should be interesting whatever happens doe. I kinda like the story as is. Guy destroys mfers & beats two of the better known contenders of the day to get locked up for a decade & a half. The part thats gonna make that story less appealing in 5 years is Ike will have gone 5-3 or 3-5 or something like that & makes that 20-0 destroyer & his domination seem less than it was. But obviously Ike can only deal in the present & presently he ain't locked up & I imagine a boxing career + 16 years locked up aren't good to for employers to see on job applications so he probably don't got much choice in the matter.

Was a huge fan of him back then, dude had all the faculties to be a solid champion.

Power, quick hands, iron chin, decent jab, great motor, good body attack, and was likely going to Improve on his defense which is all was left.

I picked him to be a darkhorse in the division and sadly as I believe, all those shots he took from Tua made him go out of his mind.

This was a man with no criminal record at until he started doing crazy **** for no reason after the Tua fight.

One heck a what if because of his potential.

Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch of him and Tua after a couple of tuneups.

Thats interesting, I didn't follow his career though. Maybe some folks that did can share some light.

Might sound strange but it's possible. There seems to be a link between brain trauma and the change of a person's behavior, demeanor, etc. The NFL fought for a long time to keep that type of information from the public.

In terms of boxing, I'm convinced the same thing happened to Jermain Taylor. He was a decent guy that suddenly had a change of behavior...lost his family and started getting locked up for ****** stuff.
