Because, simply put, at 32 years of age, and only 10 years as a pro boxer worth of wear on his body (can add this current 15-month stretch if you want), Marcos Maidana is basically in position to make another $4m-$6m before his body gives up on trying to make 147/154.

Keep him fighting in California/Texas/Nevada, build on the "Latin Hombre" image that he's been able to establish with the Broner/Mayweather/Mayweather2 fights.

-fringe fight at 147
-decent fight at 147 (ie Maidana vs Ortiz)
-Brook/Thurman/Garcia/Khan-type fight

-1-3 "make sure I'm not shot" fights

By the time he was even 34/35, the money would be in hand. Walking away now, if that is what Maidana decides to do, would be leaving his prime earning years underutilized.

Yes but then you might be sacrificing his well being. Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman can do a lot of damage those are serious fights. Porter gave Paulie Malignaggi a subdural hematoma. Those dogs aren't nothing to play with
