Comments Thread For: Lee-Saunders: UK Boxing Personalities Torn On Outcome

It’s been a long time coming but tonight at the Manchester Arena, live on Boxnation, Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders will finally lock horns for the Irishman’s WBO World middleweight title.

Despite the two frustrating postponements 2015 is going to go out with a **** in the UK. A contest that needs no hype, no trash talk and one that has many a fan chopping and changing.

With that in mind Boxing Scene decided to canvas the opinions of 23 British boxing personalities (not a planned number) to see if this fight has some of the trade split down the middle.

Hmmm - for the fans this is how boxing should be most of the time instead of promoters positioning their fighters to avoid risk in order to try and get belts.

I see Lee having more experience here. His boxing ability is being underrated because Lee's ability is standout. Lee has looked vulnerable but fighting a much higher calibre of opponent than Saunders. This is a step up for Saunders. If you look at Korobov who was avoided by Quillen when Quillen was supposedly a top 3 fighter at MW (maybe his team knew something we didn't?) then I think a lot would have said that a mythical Korobov-Saunders matchup would have been a toss up. But that's a level of opponet that Saunders has never confronted so, as I say, this is a step up for Saunders. Lets see how his boxing ability looks against someone like Lee who is a very handy boxer himself.

A few of these trainers did make the point that Saunders is fresher. Certainly Lee has had a tough ride the last three fights with Jackson, Korobov and Quillen. He may now be slightly shop worn but that is just speculation as we haven't seen any evidence as of yet.

Great night of boxing lined up - 2015 has been a good year for boxing. If 2016 is as good then no complaints from this side.

After seeing them next to each other Lee has way more height (and reach) advantage than I first thought. I'm predicting Lee by T/KO deep into the fight.

Yea I noticed that to (actually hard to miss that lol), I was sorta shocked how big brother-ish Lee looked next to BJS. If I had better patience I'd always wait til the weigh ins to make picks cuz you can get so much good info there. Its like when the horses are walking to post. If you are placing bets before you see whats going on with the horse you might be making a awful bet.

Having said that I picked BJS & will stick with it cuz I think there is still a nice mix of underrated & overrated going on with this fight.

I think BJS gots a higher boxing IQ & will fight accordingly for 36 minutes today & Lee's power seems accidental more than deliberate more often then not. Its like Tyson had "I'mma smash you" power that was there from the 1st second of the fight & Lee gots "oops I'm sorry did I knock you out" power that just sorta happens or sorta doesn't at any random point in the fight. Its like he gets the flower in Super Mario that turns Mario big & than goes right back into regular Mario.
