  • Comments Thread For: Jacobs: We’d Practiced Putting Away Hurt Opponents

Daniel Jacobs went from having a dangerous opponent to having a hurt foe in front of him. And so he went into action to keep Peter Quillin from being able to be dangerous again — attacking Quillin and scoring a marvelous first-round technical knockout.

Although he wasn’t expecting to hurt Quillin so early, it was no accident that Jacobs was able to end the fight once Quillin was wobbled so badly.

I do admit he was diciplined and incredibly accurate in putting Quillin away, not just throwing a bunch of wild shots.

Eh, I thought he was expending a LOT of wasted energy and throwing grazing shots and leaning into his punches rather than staying calm and going for accuracy. Not to take away from the great accomplishment he made. I'm glad he got it done but wile it was happening I was worried that he was punching himself out.

Would've liked to see more body work and he was wide open for return fire but all goes out the window in the heat of the moment. Especially when you get that adrenaline rush after seeing your opponent staggering.

Well Jacobs benefited from the fact that Quillin in a normal state has no clue how to tie up or hold so doing it when hurt would be more difficult, so his attacks worked well to end it.

Against someone who knows how to get through tough spots Jacobs would have likely found it much more difficult and maybe found himself in a tough fight.

Capt. Jacobs was dropping major bomb-age on Quillian! But kid chocolate isn't done. Not unless his mind gets filled with self doubt. I predict he will be fine.
At least he didn't make excuses about shoulder pain & tight socks!!!

As long as he put Quillin away, it's all good.

That was quite evident. Excellent job by Jacobs last night. Very happy for him.

He did well landing that big right...stayed having that killer instinct. the fight ender was that right hook to the temple. Put Quillen in a world of trouble, that.

Can't imagine Jacobs being able to pull some blitzkrieg on GGG though. GGG would be extra careful with that one and pick him apart.
