and Kovalev would have been removed as mandatory challenger, which is the exact same thing that happened to him for withdrawing ahead of the purse bid
All Im saying is Duva could have went ahead with the bid, and suffered no additional ill effects. She already looked like a clown. How much worse could it have gotten?Comment

Got idiots saying HBO is in trouble yet look at this past weekend's ratings. HBO aired 2 cards that went head to head with Haymon first PBC in the afternoon HBO crushed PBC doing over 1mil viewers compared to the NBC card with Charlo and Spence vs a bunch of bums that NOBODY watched. Then HBO replays that fight along with replays from last weeks canelo/Cotto fight and the undercard Vargas fight. That's 3 fights all old fights with the outcome already known head to head with Showtime card with Degale. And it was a massacre.
Canelo vs Cotto did over 901k
Vargas did 772k
3rd replay of the night of Fury fight 676K (over 1.7m when you add the afternoon live boadcast)
Showtime
Geale vs Bute 269k
Undercard fights did 191k and 173k
Showtime aired all live fights and got murdered by HBO's late night replay of old fights. But yeah HBO who has all the best fighters and more relevant fights is in trouble? Sure don't look like it.Comment

No doubt, HBO has been and likely will continue to be a big player in the fight game. Pun intended.Got idiots saying HBO is in trouble yet look at this past weekend's ratings. Duva is looking like even more of a clown now that she pushed for such a quick purse bid with Glazkov and Tyson Furey. She obviously likes to play around with the whole purse bid process in order to benefit her fighters.
Because of this it's possible that a Wlad-Furey rematch won't be for all the same belts now.Comment

certaintly not defending Duva, but the truth is it wouldnt have mattered, since the IBF is saying that the mando is due. The IBF does not recognize rematch clauses, and only allows unifications to trump a mando. So if Klitschko exercises an immediate rematch, the IBF belt was gone regardless......Duva is looking like even more of a clown now that she pushed for such a quick purse bid with Glazkov and Tyson Furey. Playing chess when others are playing checkersOriginally posted by saint laurentBig Dunny -
I am saying HBO Boxing is in trouble long term. If you disagree, I'm happy to discuss it, but the childish name calling is unnecessary. It's easy to call someone an idiot. The challenge is to prove it. Odds are that my intellectual credentials trump yours, as does my experience in the field. So cut the rhetoric and have a civilized human conversation.
People that focus on the past weekend instead of on five years from now are completely missing the point. I'm not dis*****g that HBO has a healthy collection of stars right now. The problem is that their boxing budget has shrunk considerably over the years and going forward, as Netflix and HBo battle head to head and Showtime becomes an afterthought, the money HBO spends on boxing will be better spent elsewhere.
Of course the encore presentation of the second biggest pay-per-view of the year is going to garner more viewers than a fight from Canada at 12:30 in the morning between a Brit and a Quebec City hero.
Your biggest problem is your ego. You assume that if you don't understand something that it therefore is incorrect, never even contemplating the possibility that you don't understand it because you have tunnel vision and can't see the big picture.
Most people are like you, focused on NOW, which is how people like Haymon make their fortunes, thinking a hundred moves ahead, making moves now that he knows will allow him to squeeze HBO's throat three years from now. Making moves three years ago that allowed him to do what he's doing now.
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. That is the problem with intelligence. You don't have to be fast to realize how fast someone is. You don't have to be strong to realize how strong someone is. But an idiot doesn't have the capacity to understand advanced concepts and typically believes it is someone else that is the idiot.
That may be the situation you're finding yourself in.Comment
