Trainer Freddie Roach has instructed WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto to stay away from the ropes when he faces Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Cotto is training at Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California. HBO Pay-Per-View is carrying the anticipated card.

If Cotto moves well and stays from the ropes, Canelo has a Problem. Cotto needs to circle around Canelo and throw crisp hard punches from different angles in between. I think he can do that.

Stay away from the ropes, but have a plan B when you are against the ropes. Mayweather did a good job of countering Canelo while his back was against the ropes (he also did it to Cotto). Once Canelo would get hit, he began thinking instead of punching, and then Mayweather was able to get off the ropes. Cotto is a vet, he should know how and when to tie up Canelo!
