Comments Thread For: Erik Morales Praises Chocolatito, Says Canelo in Tough

Former four division world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales has given high praise to WBC flyweight world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (44-0, 38KOs). Morales has been impressed with the work of Gonzalez, who many now consider as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.

He's actually in a great era for Flyweights and has some seriously tough opposition out there right now. He's got quite a few years of really top flight opponents. It's as good as it's been since Chiquita/Carbajal/Chang era etc.

He's got a lot of really tough fights out there for him at 112 and up to 115. The morons around here who have jumped on the non conformist, hipster anti-flyweights bandwagon and can't make their own minds up because they're too lazy to watch these guys and instead just go with the 'overrated flyweights!' talk have probably seen maybe one guy, if that.

It'd be like people five years ago saying Donaire was a bum because he fought at 112. Right now, 112 and 115 are stacked divisions with some of the most talented fighters in boxing. Just because they're small, and people haven't seen them isn't a reason to denigrate them as overrated and the opposition there as non existent.

I think most people who do so are doing it just to try and look like one of these cool hipster anti Gonzalez types. Of course it goes without saying that they've probably seen one round of his, or one fight, and have no idea who any of his opponents are. The Estrada and Inoue fights alone are as high level match ups between two top guys as you'll find in boxing.

I saw some guy recently saying that Lemiuex was a better opponent and a better champion than Brian Viloria. I mean...urgh...

I can't even be bothered, that's how daft that is.

        I like Erik.

Gonzalez is a great warrior. Like his uncle Arguello.

Cotto vs Canelo is gonna be great. Let the best Boxer win.

        The rivalry continues.
