Comments Thread For: Atlas on Getting Back in The Training Mix With Bradley

LOS ANGELES - Boxing guru Teddy Atlas had to think long and hard before he finally decided to come out of retirement as a trainer and help prepare Timothy Bradley for his WBO welterweight title defence against Brandon Rios next month.

It had been more than four years since Atlas last worked as a trainer, acting as cornerman for Alexander Povetkin when the Russian won the vacant WBA heavyweight championship title in 2011 before their relationship soured and they parted ways.

Thats one thing true about bradley he is highly coachable, he doesnt argue with his coach, its why him dumping joel diaz came as a shock, its why people know it was his wife whi gave him the orders.

Atlas used to disagree and argue with cus d amato, that is the reason teddy left cus because of his favortism to tyson especially after tyson ******ed atlas sister, amato put a gun to tyson head, cus got mad at cus instead of disciplining tyson. Cus felt only he was allowed to discipline tyson and didnt approve of anyone else trying to interfere but he also spoiled him and filled his head with hit air to build his confidence. I dont blame atlas at all after that, i would leave too.

............"amato (teddy) put a gun to tyson head, cus got mad at cus (teddy) instead of disciplining tyson".

I'm sure you know the story you got a little excited writing it.
Tyson and Teddys sister were just kids fooling around but Mike was an intense kid and could get scarey really quickly. I know that situation really well and Teddy was very upset with the entire scenerio. He lost his mentor and that facility and the future HyWt Champion too.
No one handled Tyson better than Teddy did, he gave him the training physically and boosted his confidence as much as Cus. Bad situation for all.
        Ray.

who has Teddy ever trained that was great?

Who has Teddy Atlas really trained and developed into a champion of note?? Mike Moorer? Teddy is a great commentator and knows the sport of boxing but is way over-hyped and self promoted as a successful trainer because in reality and in substance Atlas has done little to nothing in ever actually developing a fighter of note. Talks big but has done little developing a fighter. all hype little type.
