  • Comments Thread For: GGG's Coach Explains Why Andre Ward is Not Relevant

Gennady Golovkin’s trainer doesn’t think a much-discussed bout between Golovkin and Andre Ward warrants serious consideration, assuming the heavily favored Golovkin overcomes David Lemieux on Oct. 17 at Madison Square Garden.

Even if the two sides could come to an agreement on the weight at which Golovkin-Ward would be contested, Abel Sanchez said Ward’s inactivity has hurt his status in the sport and makes it less likely that the unbeaten boxers will fight anytime soon.

I have yet to hear a word out of Andre Ward's Mouth in weeks - and Abel is the one saying Ward needs to mention GGG to be relevant? Every other interview he is talking about Ward - i wish people would just wake up and call it for what it is and stop blindly following people - they will eventually let you down..

Wasn't Ward last seen talking about GGG?
You ****ers act like K2 is in the business of handing Andre Ward a pay day because of what he did 4 years ago.
Everybody should be out to do a favor for Andre Ward lol

He brought all this on himself.
He chose inactivity. He chose to talk about other fighters to keep his name out there in the public even though he chose inactivity.
He's choosing to take 5 months between tune ups lol.

Clearly Team Golovkin knows who Ward is based on how badly they want to forget him. If you have to explain why someone is irrelevant, clearly they are not irrelevant.

Those 3 nondescript opponents are better than anyone GGG has fought to date.

You do understand that it is reporters who are asking Abel these questions and the articles that BBP posts here are his replies to those questions.

This isnt like Abel is creating a blog dedicated to talking about Ward. LOL.

Look, the fact of the matter is, boxing is a "what have you done for me lately" sport. In these regards, Ward has done very little. Yes he's a great talent but he damned near killed his own career feuding with Goosen and sidelining himself for 2yrs. In that time HBO and GGG built a star on the rise. GGG is scheduled to headline his first ppv at a sold out MSG while Ward is somewhere in the shadows fighting on BET.

Would I like to see it? Hell yes! My only problem is one fighter will have to handicap himself either by moving up or moving down. As it stands GGG is a MW while Ward is a LHW. If Ward racks up some good wins and gains some exposure I have no doubt that this fight will come off at 168 when/if GGG were to get passed the winner of Cotto/Canelo. If not Ward can go fight the other killer in his own weight class. Kovalev.

Both camps are asked about each other. The difference is Ward has something to gain by talking about GGG. Because GGG is the only reason we talk about Ward. Let's be honest, what else would we have to say about him? Who is he fighting next? He's fought a few bums in 3 years? This fight is obviously not happening anytime soon and all of these threads are becoming redundant and boring. I wish the media would just move on for now. There is 15 pounds separating these guys now, it's getting silly. I hope it eventually happens at 168 tho.

And to the haters who say GGG is a hype job but then want a champion a weight class or two above to fight him and say it's a mega fight...well you can't have it both ways. By saying the latter you acknowledge he is good.
