Comments Thread For: Top Rank, Golden Boy Expect Drama in HBO Double

Given the amount of boxing that has been on television this year, a scheduling conflict was bound to happen at some point. Not only do HBO and Showtime go head-to-head, but both American cable giants present their own version of super lightweight title fight action this weekend.

On the Showtime side, Adrien Broner is given a chance to become a four-division champ as he faces former 140 lb. titlist Khabib Allakhverdiev for a vacant belt in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. More than 2,000 miles west, HBO presents a pair of super lightweight bouts, topped by a vacant title fight between Lucas Matthysse and unbeaten Viktor Postol.

It was foolish for Showtime to schedule this fight head to head with Matthysee fight which was already announced long before them. This will be like when they decided to put Chavez Jr head to head with Matthysee earlier this year and got slaughtered in the head to head ratings. And Chavez Jr has headlined PPV events and has a bigger fanbase then Broner does. Broner can't even sellout in his own hometown. There is no buzz for the Broner fight which is a joke that a title is up for grabs considering he and his opponent are both coming off losses.

I didn't even realize Broner's fight was this weekend. All I knew was that Matthysse vs Postol was this Saturday, and that is really all I cared about.

I don't have DVR. It's unfortunate that networks are competing on this night because I'm looking forward to all the fights, especially Soto/Orozco.

I agree, but this is all on Showtime. This is about the 4th or 5th time that HBO has long announced a fight on a date only to have weeks later or months later Showtime announce a fight on the same date to compete against it. HBO matter fact has passed on fights that would of competed with other fights that were already announced on other networks. For example HBO fighter Lemiuex vs N'Dam. There is something going on with Haymon because the Matthysee fight that Showtime aired with Chavez Jr the same day is cited in the lawsuit against Al Haymon. Not only did they try to steal the date he tried to block the venue and other venue's which is why the fight ended up in a Casino in NY. HBO got the last laugh as they stomped Showtime/Haymon in the head to head ratings. But clearly there is something going on with Haymon because it's happening too many times where he is trying to steal dates and venues it seems intentional.

i dont really like oscar much as a person (attention whore, cross dressing coke head phaggot, bitter crybaby who gets easily jealous of others achievements)
but him being willing to work with whatever promoter/network is a step in the right direction. They all should be able to do that. Of course you could argue that he dont have much choice because he only has a few fighters left and if hes pissed at haymond... then who is he going to make fights with except bob's guys.
