Comments Thread For: HBO, Showtime Usher in The Next 140-Pound Era

By Cliff Rold - It had been well over a year since he’d had a fight in the division. As long as Danny Garcia held on to his various titles at 140 lbs., there was still a toe in the water. Jr. Welterweight hadn’t quite moved on and no one else had proved his better at the weight.

Following a clash with Paulie Malignaggi this past summer, Garcia made clear what was pretty obvious for a while. Danny Garcia is now a Welterweight…

…and Jr. Welterweight appears ready to move on.

This Saturday, HBO (10:15 PM EST) and Showtime (10 PM EST) will highlight 140 lbs. with a pair of interesting clashes that will fill out the title picture. The WBO and IBF straps are taken. Former Lightweight champion Terrence Crawford (26-0, 18 KO) successfully moved up and snared the vacant WBO crown with a stoppage of Thomas Dulorme in April. Cesar Cuenca (48-0, 2 KO) won the IBF title with a decision over Ik Yang in July. [Click Here To Read More]

Dam good fights. As for the vacant crown, its hard to say..all the candidates are pretty evenly matched and anyone can beat the other any given night. Cuenca is the wild card and imo the most dangerous. Theres only one way to find out. At least these fights coming up will narrow it down which is more than you can say for the WW division. Contrary to what the articles states WW is a very overrated division and with the current trend of the top guys dodging each other, the vacancy wont be filled for a while.

If the version of Khabib that beat Joan Guzman shows up then he is going to tool Broner.

"It's unclear who is the best in the division"
It really isn't, Matthysse is #1 on every list out there. At most you could make an argument for Herrera being better having been robbed by Garcia. The rest don't have 140 records which stack up.
