  • Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez Will Prove P4P Ranking, Says Coach

Arnulfo Obando, trainer of Roman "Chocolatito" González (43-0, 37KOs), says the boxer is not getting a big head after dozens of writers began listing him as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world following the retirement of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Obando began working with Roman in late 2009 when he replaced former coach Gustavo Herrera. He believes the recognition of Roman as the best fighter on the planet is well deserved without any doubt.

yeah he'll prove the #1 p4p ranking was premature when viloria puts his ass to sleep.

He's a great talent no doubt, but I still see him as the Wlad of the lower divisions. Wlad never got credit for dominating a weak division in a weak era. I know Roman has moved up in weight but that fact still remains. I personally think Estrada beats him in a rematch. He did good the first fight and hes a much better now than he was in that fight because he fought the better competition of the two since and has vastly improved because of it.

All he has to do is keep winning, don't listen to the emotional idiots who are upset because they favorite fighter did not get #1 on those p4p rankings that means absolutely NOTHING

I like Chocolatito. But I don't think he should moving up just to get belts. In his last fight he sure put a beating on his foe, but looked somehow sluggish and prone to get hit. Bigger guys hit harder.

He has a solid chance to solidify that spot.

I'd like to see Ruenrong, Estrada and Gonzalez mix and match to get an undisputed champion. Then of course you have Inoue waiting at 115.

Do you really think Viloria at 34 years old, the tail end of his career, really has a legitimate chance? Or do you think it's more possible that Gonzalez wil just continue on his path of beating mid 30 year old's?

I'm really asking for your take, I know you are a big fan of Viloria, but what makes you so confident about Viloria stopping Gonzalez? Was it a past fight you saw of Gonzalez? Only thing I was in the Yaegashi fight Gonzalez didn't really care about defense, he took a lot of clean punches to the face and that is a flaw that could be taken advantage of by the right guy. But do you think Viloria is that guy?

for me, if choco is cautious. boxes smart and careful early-mid rounds, waits for viloria to get tired, he can easily win a UD.

                my thing for viloria:

                1. power, viloria has always had one punch power that can turn a fight
                2. chin, viloria has a damn good chin, ain't gonna be early ko for choco
                3. viloria is better vs. good opponents, he gets up for good fighters.

i've been watching a lot of chocolatito fights.

he's fast but not that fast viloria can't hit him.

he has good def but sometimes he forgets. vs estrada for example he made estrada miss a lot but he was still getting tagged 1 or 2 before choco starts making him miss. a 1-2 from viloria is dangerous.

he can throw a lot and make viloria leave his guns holstered but he can punch himself out like that. especially with viloria's chin. could we see a arguello vs. pryor type fight?

with his recent fights and hype, possible choco goes for a early ko. that's very dangerous to do vs. brian. ask tyson marquez.

viloria is a weird dude to fight.

if you box him, you don't exploit his stamina weakness. you make viloria relaxed and comfortable. he has good skills and can box with anyone.

you have to pressure viloria, to tire him. but that's dangerous because of his power. so many got ktfo going at brian.

choco has to apply constant pressure with high workrate while being smart and boxing.

He's accomplished more than a lot of the names that people like to throw around on P4P lists.

                    Beautiful offensive skills too.
