Comments Thread For: Lemieux's Ex-Promoter Says He is 'Not Ready' For GGG

Yvon Michel of GYM, who promoted IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux for practically his entire career, says the fighter is being rushed and is "not ready" to face someone like WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.

Golovkin-Lemieux will happen on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Michel promoted Lemieux up until the end of 2014. The boxer then announced he was signing a contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Michel claimed he still had Lemieux under contract and filed a lawsuit.

He isn't and I figure this will be his end as a top world class champion. All downhill for the kid from here. Although I'm not sure he'd ever be ready for that fight.

I like Lemieux but yea, he's not ready. He can still be a top 5 MW though easily for a few years.

Fighters have a level that they are and David Lemieux is not very good , its a shame when guys like this are fed to a guy that is hyped to the high heavens , a piece of tin makes it legit but I dont think it does the fight is still a miss match whether the tin is there or not .

I thought Haymon was managing Stevenson and Beterbiev?
Maybe he's just advising them because we all know Al isn't a promoter lol

Lemieux is not ready for Golovkin but he's as ready as he's ever going to be imo. That's no reason to throw him in there now, though, is it Ok, Lemieux must be getting paid big to face GGG but a 'unification' bout against Lee or Saunders would have brought him plenty, especially if placed on a Sky Box Office show with, say, Joshua. If Lemieux were to beat either of those Golovkin would still be there for him and with two belts on board Team Lemieux could have got an even better deal than the one they've secured. Maybe David's team don't fancy their guy could beat the likes of Lee or Saunders. Maybe it's just a case of grab the Garden purse and hope that Lemieux turns in a performance that's solid enough and entertaining enough to keep himself relevant and marketable at the high end of the division. I wish him luck, I really do.

Lemieux could've been like most fighters nowadays and took an easy defense at home and waited on the IBF mandatory.
Gotta respect the fact that his first fight after winning the belt is a unification vs the best man in the division.
I'm sure he is getting paid well, that's why it is a PPV fight. Still bad ass though.

Maybe not, but he looks a lot better than he did when you said he was ready for Rubio.
