Comments Thread For: Yamanaka vs. Moreno: BoxingScene Staff Predictions

Shinsuke Yamanaka and Anselmo Moreno are set for their highly anticipated bantamweight title fight Tuesday evening in Tokyo, Japan.

Yamanaka (23-0-2, 17KOs) attempts the ninth defense of the bantamweight title he claimed in Nov. '11. The unbeaten southpaw from Japan scored a 7th round knockout of Diego Santillan in his most recent bout this past May.

Nearly three years of his reign ran parallel with Moreno's stay at the top, though sadly their long-awaited clash missed unification status by a year.

Moreno (35-3-1, 12KOs) earned his championship in 2008, scoring a 12-round decision over the excellent Wladimir Sidirenko on the road in Germany to ignite what would be a six-year reign. The rangy southpaw from Panama ranked up 14 title defenses, several of which took place on the road. His championship status came to a close last September, dropping a six-round technical decision to Juan Carlos Payano in Texas.

The showdown with Yamanaka marks the first piece of ring action for Yamanaka, just four days shy of a full year of inactivity. [Click Here To Read More]

ive got yamanaka by ko 9 quid, 10 on yamanka decision as a hedge and 1 on the draw, im basically playing the ko but if he gets the decision im covered. The short straight left will probably whipe out moreno.

And if Moreno wins how are you covered?

        What odds did you get?

Simple. Moreno couldn't get the decision.
Don't know why anyone would pick Moreno by decision.

Japan doesn't have a reputation for bad judging, at least not that I have read about. Not like Germany for example.

Well Yamanaka got the split decision - so it was somewhat close.

Well, Germany is like the worst country in regards to that.
The split decision wasn't right. Moreno clearly won. Should've been unanimous by a more than a couple of points.

Japan is a case where I feel like people brush these bad decisions in Japan under the rug out of some misplaced admiration, one not shown to German fighters. Kohei Kono just got a gift against Jimenez this past December.
IMO, there's another reason(besides money) that Japanese fighters don't like to travel, something they share with the Germans.

Maybe. Reading the Ring report it sounds like Moreno was more dominant in the rounds he won but maybe Yamanaka won more rounds. Definitely German fighters don't like to travel.

I don't know, I just didn't see it that way. Seeing the fight live, it just didn't look that way to me. I'll probably give it another watch at some point when it shows up online, but even scoring rounds wise(something I always try to remember to do), I still thought he had the edge.
