Comments Thread For: Berto Continues To Learn Under "Mr. Professor" Hunter

Andre Berto will have just celebrated his 32nd birthday by the time he steps into the ring for his September 12 clash with Floyd Mayweather.

Given his age, time in service and career setbacks, there comes the suggestion that he’s accomplished all that he can in the sport. But it’s not at all the way he sees it, instead viewing his current run with one of the game’s top trainers in Virgil Hunter— more than two years and counting—as the continuation of a fresh start with the best still yet to come. Every Mayweather fight is the same, the opponent looks great, promises to really fight, has big rippling muscles, seen sparring, looks vicious and scary, selling the fight perfectly well. Then on fight night, he rolls over like a little puppy. No punching, punches from far away, no uppercuts, lets Floyd hit him. I'm not saying Berto's not going to show up. I'm saying he's behaving exactly like all the previous fighters (after Ricky Hatton) who didn't show up.

Yeah, it's always been pretty stiff jab, he just forgets to use it. Or fighters know they can just walk right up to him and take it away. He's also fought a lot of southpaws so that might have taken it away in some fights too. But he's used it more in the last two fight though, I agree. It's really the only thing about this matchup that has me interested.

Hunter didn't teach Berto crap, he was getting smacked around the ring by Lopez prior to that ludicrous stoppage.

Mayweather always gets cracked with at least 1 big shot in a fight.Lately from the orthodox stance it's been straight rights and over hands. And I know skill wise berto has no chance, but I wonder if he lands a similar punch to the one maidana landed added with his speed will he take it lol? Cause he didn't take maidana's to well. Luckily the round ended.
