Kono-Kameda has been talked about for some time and finally has a date and a home. Kameda signed on with adviser Al Haymon earlier this year (his brothers Tomoki and Daiki are signed with Haymon as well).
Both fighters will be coming off a decent stretch of inactivity. Kameda has been out of the ring since last November, but Kono has been away just as long with his last fight taking place in December.
The fight will take place as on October 16th as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card from the UIC Pavillion in Chicago. Spike TV will carry the card.
In the main event, as BoxingScene.com previously reported, light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16KOs) will return for the first time since the April knockout of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and takes on former WBO champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15KOs) in the main event. The WBC International title will be at stake.
