  • Comments Thread For: Ellerbe Would Not Advise Mayweather To Fight Again

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, would not advise Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight again - once the boxer fully retires from the sport.

Mayweather claims his upcoming fight with Andre Berto will be the final professional outing of his 19-year career. The fight takes place on September 12th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The fallout for mayweather after sept 12 fight will be huge....it will follow him into retirement and u know the saying your only as good as your last fight....boxing folk will criticise floyd for this fight I guarantee it.... And that's his undoing for picking berto.....he is loser either way...because if berto did shock the world and win floyds legacy is ****ed....and if he skates it as expected floyd will not get respect over this simply because he chose a tomatoe can for his last fight...and all time legends would take the hardest challenge as there coup de grace and would want to remembered ....if sugar ray leonard had announced to everybody that his next fight was his final fight would he have picked berto ? I don't think so lol

He'll fight again. Him retiring for good is just a ploy to sell this **** fight.

Most boxers end their careers badly. I don't think that analogy holds true for the great fighters of their eras. Ali lost to Berbick. Tyson lost to some random European iirc. That analogy is for active fighters & if Mayweather truly retires he will no longer be a active fighter on Sept. 13.

Mayweather gets criticized for ALL his fights lol. Everybody Mayweather fought since beating Oscar sucks on Sunday morning. This opponent just happens to suck on Saturday morning too.

and all time legends would take the hardest challenge as there coup de grace and would want to remembered ...
I would advise you to check boxrec or the record books. Plenty of fighters have had a limp **** final opponent. I think as usual people are trying to make something Mayweather does as a worst evil than when others have done it. And as I said Mayweather takes **** for all his opponents so this fight is no different this time its just more deserved.

As a Floyd fan it's actually a weird situation with this Berto fight..After the Pac fight (even though it was a dud), I was of the opinion that Floud could, and should let his last fight be a little easier for himself...

Now, at the time my thought process for that "easy" fight was: make the fight with Amir Khan...take the inevitable (slightly less) huge pay day...and beat the guy silly...

Then he announced Berto as his opponent..and I personally don't care..it won't change how I judge the career of Mayweather, but I can certainly see how this could taint his career in the eyes of some (I'm not talking about the haters, they would complain if they cloned a prime Roy Jones and put him in the ring with Floyd)...

Would a 50th fight against Khan change anyone's opinion on May weather's career? I doubt it...I say just retire a very wealthy man with your 0 intact...invest your money wisely, and really try to do something big with Mayweather promotions...Oscar makes plenty of money, no reason Floyd can't...

Sadly, I don't think this will be his last fight, but it really, really should be

Mayweather is definitely retiring after this fight. After 20 years in the sport he has nothing left to prove. No fight will top Pac, money wise and any fight beyond Berto is pointless. He has hit the lottery as far as boxing is concerned, he is cashing his chops out and riding off in the sunset.
