Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Mayweather Earned Right To Retire With Berto

Future hall of famer, former champion and Golden Boy Promotions stakeholder, Bernard Hopkins, has no problem with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) selecting Andre Berto as the final opponent of his pro career.

Mayweather has been attacked by the fans, and most writers, for picking Berto - viewed as a humongous underdog. Berto, although a former WBC/IBF welterweight champion, is 3-3 in his last six fights, and two of the opponents who defeated him - Robert Guerrero and Victor Ortiz - were already soundly beaten by Mayweather.

All you have to do is ask yourself, what other fight has the potential to come close to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in 2015? That fight would be Cotto vs. Alvarez, which is a fight between to fighters that Floyd has already defeated. It's as simple as that. Then ask yourself, what fight will make more money: the winner getting a rematch vs. Floyd @ 155, or a fight vs. GGG @ 160? Again the answer is Floyd! We may all want Mayweather to retire, but the fighters don't! They know that Mayweather is still the man!

            The Living Legend is right!!!

Floyd has earned the right to do whatever he wants....he beat ALL the relevant fighters of his era...he's earned the right to take a victory lap...his haters/critics are just mad and suffering from severe Anus pain

Having listened to the video of Floyd telling about his Uncle Roger's loss of memory and the problems that the family and Roger face, I know that Floyd is concerned that he too could someday show the effects of absorbing too many punches; consequently, I cannot blame Floyd for his choice of opponent nor his decision to retire after his 49th fight.
