Comments Thread For: Golovkin Will NOT Entertain Cotto Catch-Weight Demand

Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions explained to BoxingScene.com as to why his star fighter, WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs), will not accept a catch-weight for a potential unification with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs).

Cotto has received a lot of heat from boxing fans and pundits, because his middleweight run has been built on the back of catch-weight fights.

You can't really argue against this. Either fight your mandatory at the full 160 lb limit or vacate the belt. It's pretty simple.

He wont have to, because after his October PPV he will become a super star fighter an A-side fighter.

I have no problem with a boxer sticking to his guns and fighting the best in his division...

Floyd ducked Triple G at 54' when he holds titles in that division...

Triple G is the champ at 160..no need to move up and fight Ward if he doesn't want to..

Let Canelo and Cotto look like cowards in front of the fans, and that's even better than beating them in the ring...

Triple G ducks NO fights in his own division...

Ward on the other hand just fought at light heavy but won't fight Kovalev "yet"... aka I need to wait him out until he gets old or vulnerable ala Floyd Mayweather's entire career playbook since Castillo...

Triple G would fight anyone at 160..but I guess we have a new 155 lb division..funny how the catch weight hypocrites aren't raising a stink as much anymore now when it's not Pacquiao asking for a catch weight...

see the problem with that ggg is cotto and canelo will vacate just to get a better seat at negotiating table thats the reality ggg has to realize both are not middleweights cant blame them if they do. then again ggg is more worried about getting all these belts then actually fighting the best

                Sure.

Try and demand Cotto to fight GGG at a full 160 is like getting Khan to fight Brook.

GGG will either have to succumb to Cotto's demands or fight against some dud for the vacant title. Goodbye $5-10 million payday.

Golovkin will, however, entertain a catch-weight demand when it comes to Andre Ward.

                  Fooking hypocrites.

Screw Cotto-Weasel; Canelo Stops Cotto Anyway

It won't matter. Cotto would never get in the ring with GGG. And it's not always about getting the biggest payday. Old school is about unifying the division, collected all the ****** belts floating around. Pretty gutless of Cotto to not want to defend a 160 title at 160, due to the fact he found a weak link in a washed up, injury prone 40 yr old Sergio Martinez and won't man up to fight the best 160lber at 160. That's the difference between Canelo & Cotto. Canelo has already said he wants the biggest fights and he'd fight GGG at 160. All that said, none of this matters because Cotto doesn't get by Canelo anyway.
