Comments Thread For: Beterbiev-Barrera Eliminator To Be Ordered By IBF

The light heavyweight division remains loaded with talent. Where it falls miserably short these days is getting its top participants in the ring to face one another.

Artur Beterbiev remains on the hunt for a dance partner to meet in a final eliminator to determine the next mandatory challenger for unbeaten unified light heavyweight champ Sergey Kovalev. The undefeated contender—born and raised in Russia but now based out of Montreal, Canada—has watched the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Isaac Chilemba and Seanie Monaghan pass on the matchup in favor of more desirable opportunities. It will be interesting to hear Main Events response.

Their reasoning for Chilemba turning down the shot was that they could make Kovalev-Chilemba any time they wanted so Chilemba didn't need the eliminator.

I guess they could say the same for Barrera.

Kathy DUva and Kov are making a mockery of the purse bid process and its going to come back and bite them.

Damn I was hoping Pascal would take the fight. I really don't care about a Kovalev/Pascal rematch as is.

Barrerra could be a real problem for Beterbiev. I don't think he'll reject the eliminator as he's hungry for an opportunity and ME doesn't have anything nearly as big lined up. It's in their favor to let the fight happen as their guy not only will get a good payday but has a good shot at the upset and making himself into a commodity opponent for Kovalev.

Probably fighting Chilemba next since HBO will probably approve for the Russia fight.

They're gonna take it. They really wanted WBC shot for Chilmba... Chilemba/Alvarez has already been ordered and they have 30 days to negotiate... but we all know it's going to go to purse bid and Duva won't put as much restriction as she did for Kovalev... mainly because HBO sided with Kovalev, not so much every ME fighter.

As for Barrera... she'll let this happen too IMO. He'll accept the bid so in the chance that he does win, she doesn't have Haymon breathing down her neck with the purse bids and buys her a little bit more time.

Kovalev is, IMO, really the only person ,along with maybe Glazkov, she'll say has to absolutely be done her way.

IMO, Barrera will accept and they'll go to purse bids

But lol if i'm wrong in 4-5 days

i think they'll reject. kovalev options on hbo are thin as it is, they won't want to risk one of their most promising contenders against one of their rival's main guys

Damn! That is a Great Match Up between two Light Heavyweights that are on the rise.

I doubt Barrera has a deal with HBO so no excuse why this fight can't happen. If Duva is smart should would drive up the price for this match up and get her fighter a great pay day

Well their next fight is in Russia and HBO has the option to buy it.

Also Pascal is next for them in Feb or so... so I think they'll take a fight in Russia and start worrying about an opponent later.... I still think it's Gonzalez or somebody along those lines.

if they don't go for a Russian or European for November... I still think it'll be Gonzalez who gets the call just to appease HBO into buying it
